Cano Health data breach compromised personal data of 28,268 patients, including their medical, insurance, financial information, social security numbers.
MIAMI, June 12, 2020 — Cano Health, LLC, a leading population health management company and operator of primary care medical centers in Florida, is advising its patients of a privacy event that may have compromised certain personal information.
On April 13, 2020 hackers accessed three employee emails. Messages from those accounts were forwarded to an outside emails. Following the breach Cano Health secured the accounts and launched investigation. Becker’s Healthcare reported about 28,268 patients affected.
Cano Health data breach compromised the following patients’ personal information:
- patient names,
- dates of birth,
- contact information,
- healthcare information,
- insurance information,
- social security numbers,
- government identification numbers,
- financial account numbers.
Following the brach Caho Health notified all potentially affected individuals. They also notified law enforcement. According to Cano Health the breach may have occurred between May 18, 2018 and April 13, 2020.
Dr. Marlow Hernandez-Cano, Chief Executive Officer assured they “take the protection of our patients’ information very seriously and sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience this incident has caused or may cause to anyone who has been affected”.
